This town, from where you can enjoy a dramatic and all-embracing view of the Tyrrhenian sea, is a door to the Madonie, situated among suggestive valleys. The built-up area developed in the XII century, around the Norman Castle, whose outstanding remains can still be seen. The old town still preserves its typically medieval plant, featuring a knot of narrow streets linked by tiny alleys and steep staircases.
The town also hosted many a monastic order, who set up many churches, among which Santa Maria La Vecchia, where a Gagini Madonna and a Nicolò Bagnasco crucifix are. 6 km away from town you will find the Abbey of San Giorgio, and, not far from there, one of the oldest abbeys in Sicily, the former Abbey of Santa Maria del Pedale, built in 1130.
